The books
Jessie is the author of How to Raise a Happy Autistic Child and How to Raise a Happy ADHD Child, both widely praised for their clear, compassionate, and practical approach. Her writing has helped thousands of parents feel less afraid, and more focused on supporting their child in a way that respects and works with their brain type.
Both books draw on years of research and reporting, as well as Jessie’s own experience as a parent of neurodivergent children. They are frequently recommended by professionals, schools, and parent groups across the UK.
Journalism and public work
Through her journalism, books, and public work, Jessie played a key role in bringing the concept of neurodiversity into the UK mainstream. She is known for translating complex ideas into language that parents, schools, and professionals can use.
Jessie currently serves as SEND agony aunt for The Times and The Sunday Times, one of the most widely read neurodiversity-focused roles in UK journalism. She receives questions from parents, carers, teachers, and professionals across the country, and her responses are read by hundreds of thousands of people each week.
Her work has appeared in The Guardian, the BBC, The Observer, and numerous other publications and broadcasts. She is a trusted public voice on a topic that affects millions of UK families.
Lived experience
Jessie is AuDHD (both autistic and ADHD), as are both her sons. This lived experience sits at the heart of her work. She understands first-hand the exhaustion of navigating systems that were not designed with neurodivergent people in mind, and the relief that comes when support finally makes sense.
Her approach is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming principles, with a strong emphasis on emotional safety, sensory awareness, and realistic, low-conflict strategies that fit real family life. Jessie’s work focuses on long-term happiness and how to achieve that for young people growing up in schools and systems not built for them.
Working with Jessie at NeuroUniverse
At NeuroUniverse, Jessie leads the core parent consultation and planning work. Families begin with a 30-minute session with her, where they are given space to talk through what is happening for their child, what feels hardest right now, and what they want life to look like moving forward.
Jessie then creates a personalised plan that helps parents understand what will help most and how to access the right support without overwhelm. From there, ongoing monthly check-ins mean the support evolves with your family. She knows what you have tried, what has worked, and what needs adjusting.
Jessie is known for her calm, validating presence and her ability to help parents feel less alone and more confident in the decisions they are making.
