The UK government’s definition of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) refers to children or young people (0-25) with learning difficulties or disabilities that make learning harder than for most others of the same age. They may require extra educational provision, such as an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. SEND is often shortened from special educational needs (SEN) and disability (D).
