Schools are under increasing pressure to support autistic and ADHD pupils – often with limited time, stretched resources, and uncertainty about what genuinely helps.
Even in schools that are committed, knowledgeable and caring, it’s common to find that:
- some neurodivergent pupils continue to struggle despite support in place
- staff feel unsure how best to respond day to day
- relationships with families become tense or strained
NeuroUniverse offers practical, neurodiversity‑affirming training and support for schools. Our work is designed to reduce pressure on staff, support neurodivergent pupils to thrive, and strengthen relationships between school and home.
Our approach
NeuroUniverse was founded by Jessie Hewitson – bestselling author of Autism: How to Raise a Happy Autistic Child and ADHD: How to Raise a Happy ADHD Child, SEND agony aunt for The Times and The Sunday Times, and a long‑standing voice in national conversations about neurodivergence and education.
Jessie is autistic and ADHD, and a parent to two neurodivergent children. Her work draws together lived experience, current evidence, and a deep understanding of how schools actually function.
Training is grounded in real classrooms, real families, and real constraints. We focus on what helps neurodivergent children feel safer, calmer and happier – because when this is right, learning and behaviour follow.
While Jessie delivers much of the training herself, all sessions are developed collaboratively. Content is tailored following discussion with your SENCO or leadership team to reflect your school’s context, priorities and challenges.
What we offer schools
Staff training and CPD
Practical, accessible training for teachers, support staff and leadership teams. Sessions can be delivered as INSET, twilight CPD, or lunchtime training.
Common focus areas include:
- autism and ADHD in the classroom
- executive functioning and emotional regulation
- sensory differences and hidden stress
- inclusive practice that reduces escalation
Training is designed to build confidence and understanding without adding to workload, and to give staff strategies they can use immediately.
Student assemblies
Age‑appropriate assemblies that promote understanding, empathy and inclusion across the school community.
Assemblies help neurodivergent pupils feel recognised and valued, while supporting peers to better understand difference, reduce stigma and build a more inclusive culture.
SEND coffee mornings for parents
Structured, supportive sessions for parents and carers that help:
- increase understanding of neurodivergence
- reduce anxiety and conflict
- strengthen communication between school and home
These sessions often play a key role in rebuilding trust and alignment between families and schools.
What schools and parents say
“I thought it was a well‑thought‑out talk, pitched at the right level and really reassuring.”
Parent
“Parents were moved and hugely inspired by Jessie’s talk and were really latching on to her every word. It’s powerful stuff and we are keen to learn as much as possible.”
